Fishing for Jasmine

This is a story about a man and his daughter who is in hospital... It touched me because it remembers the relationship that I have with my father.
I hope that you like it. And it's really short! =P

To Zanarkand

This is one of my favorite musics played on piano. This comes from a game named Final Fantasy X. Every time that I listen to this song, it makes me cry a little bit... It's so beautiful! It reminds me the power of LOVE (specially from the couple of the game... *snif snif*)
Enjoy!

Definition of Home

The definition of “home” is very complex and has lots of meanings.

Some civilizations still live in deserts or forests like wild animals and they call it their home. Almost all nuclear families consider that home is where we have our family. The single persons that live alone think that home is where he/she belongs and they’re happy with their independence. In my mind, I still have the same opinion since my parents got divorced: home is where the heart is.

Unfortunately, there are those who don’t know the real meaning of home (specially children) because they are orphans who don’t know their real family and live in different houses and with different parents, and they can be war refugees who live in refugee camps and are exposed to misery and disease. Also, there are those who do not have a home of their own like prisoners and the homeless men and women, and there are persons who miss their home because they’re living in other countries or work so much that they have to sleep in hotels.

In my situation, I have always lived in Lisbon with my father but my meaning of home is where I feel safe, have my own territory and can express my real identity. Sometimes, I feel it when I’m in the faculty because I have lots of friends there and I can express my feelings with some of them. Sometimes, I only feel safe when I spend some time at my boyfriend’s house because I consider his family as mine too and, in his room, I have lots of things that are mine like books and records. But my bedroom is where I have my own territory and I consider it my real home. I know that I will live in another house and get my independence when I start working but the bedroom of my father’s house will always be my real home and I will miss it a lot. So, for me, home is also where I will belong for the rest of my life.

Photo Essay about Home

My photo essay about “home” was taken on the wardrobe of my bedroom. This photo shows the most important things that I have collected through my life and how they symbolize my thought and meaning of home.

All of these simple things were collected with love and each one of them symbolizes someone or something that is still important to me.

The ladybirds symbolize me because my nickname of Joana is Joaninha and it’s the name that we give to those little flying insects that are red and have black spots. I simply love them! When I see one, I want to keep it only to me and no one can touch them. They’re pieces of me, of who I am…

I really like to be in my bedroom in summertime. This is the time of the year that I enjoy most and, in this photo, there are lots of things that symbolize it: the pink and the yellow flowers are hair slides that my mother gave to me when I was little and I still use them on the beach; inside the ladybird mug, there is a Chinese fan and I use it on those hot days; on the left side, there’s another ladybird mug and, inside it, there’s a shell which was found on a south Portuguese beach and its symbolize my holiday vacancies with all my family in Tavira (it’s a small town in the south of Portugal); and finally, the most important ones in summertime, my cards. One of my hobbies is to play at my computer and with my Mega Drive and PS2 and, when it’s summertime, I take my cards to the beach to play with my boyfriend and friends. By the way, at the top of my cards, there are two green dices which symbolize my favorite Latin quote that I apply to some situations of my life: Alea Jacta Est (The Die Is Cast).

Before my final comment, I want to talk about three things which symbolize one of the most important persons that will always be in my heart - my boyfriend – and they’re the cat mug, the gnome inside that mug, and the frame which has our photo.

I bought the cat mug because my boyfriend has a cat and I consider it as my pet. Before knowing my boyfriend, I didn’t like cats because my father said that they were selfish animals and they were mean to humans. Now, I don’t have the same thought!

The gnome reminds the figure of my boyfriend. The first time that I saw that cute doll, it remembered to me my boyfriend’s physiognomy and I don’t know why because they’re very different from each other. But, when I see the doll’s eyes, I can imagine the green sea eyes of my boyfriend…

The frame has our second picture which was taken on the city which he was born, Caldas da Rainha (near to Leiria).

As you can see, this is the place where I rest and I can be myself. This will always be the place which represents my mind and my soul. This is my home, the place where I keep all my memories and where I’m the only person who can enter to this imaginary world that is, in other words, my world.

Rapper poetry

Hi guys and girls! As I said before, I will post some poetry on the blog, but first I will say who was the person who influenced me to write poetry; that person is the great (unfortunately late) rapper Tupac Amaru Shakur. I simply adore him, his songs are awesome (for me), the way he joins and combines the lyrics are fantastic! Many people see Hip Hop as criminal gangster music but, in my opinion, that is wrong: Hip Hop begun at mid 80´s as a way to denounce the social situation in urban environments and the troubles in black guettos. Well, today I agree that rappers only talk about non important issues as money, big cars etc but Tupac or 2Pac (stage name) is different. Although, his lyrics are violent to the most sensitive persons; he talked about the struggles and the problems that people face such as racism, poverty and difficulties in general that people of ALL races face. I like him very much also because he was not only a rapper but a thinker, a philosopher, an activist, a revolutionary and a poet. His poetry really touches one´s heart and definitely made my mind to start writing poetry. Here is one of his finest poems:

Today is filled with angerfueled with hidden hate
scared of being outcast afraid of common fate
Today is built on tragedies which no one wants 2 face
nightmares 2 humanities and morally disgraced
Tonight is filled with rage violence in the air
children bred with ruthlessness because no one at home cares
Tonight I lay my head down but the pressure never stops knowing at my sanity
content when I am dropped But 2morrow I see change a chance 2 build a new
Built on spirit intent of Heart and ideals based on truth
and tomorrow I wake with second wind and strong
because of pride 2 know I fought with all my heart 2 keep my dream alive

Tupac Shakur 1971-1996

I hope you guys and girls have enjoyed it
For more info on 2Pac search in wikipedia, google or go to
